Catalina Architecture were commissioned to provide a full architectural service for the procurement of an annex to the existing community hall in Aberdyfi. The brief included the need for a main exhibition/function space, storage areas and workshop/studio, reception area, and WC facilities. Accessibility, including for persons with visual and hearing impairment, was a primary design consideration. The scheme includes solar photovoltaic panels and ground-source heating.
Located immediately adjacent to a railway line, and given the proximity of neighbouring houses (noise break-out), acoustic issues were significant.
In 2018 funding enabled the planned air-handling unit to be added which recovers heat from expelled air, and extracts heat from the ground-source system.
