Catalina Architecture were commissioned to design and oversee the construction of an annex to the existing community hall in Aberdyfi. The brief included the need for a main exhibition/function space, storage areas and workshop, arrival space and WC facilities. Accessibility, including for persons with visual and hearing impairment, was a primary design consideration. The scheme includes solar photovoltaic panels and ground-source heating.
Located immediately adjacent to the main Machynlleth-Pwllheli railway line, and given the proximity of neighbouring houses (noise break-out), acoustic issues were significant.
The main/long south elevation of the annex is designed to accept a 'phase 2' medical surgery, which may be added in future.
